No, I do not.
It is a package you have to choose, from a private company, not big brother.

Surcharge for "bad driving".
Refusing coverage if you won't use the device.

We already pay higher rates because of what we drive. I don't want big brother in my car. What do you guys think?
My dad is a Progressive Agent and they have actually offered this for as long as I can remember, just now have they finally started advertising it.

I have heard him offer it to people who don't have bad driving records and want a little extra way to save. It will not negatively effect the price of your insurance but it will help you.

Hey, it's better than Allstate who pulls your MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) every six months now to see if they can charge you with a new ticket.. for their "safe driver discount" it may save some people money but for the majority, it doesn't..

Then again I have had quite a few claims dealt with through Allstate and they didn't even pay out on one of them of which they were at fault.. and the other they tried to replace the frame on my 2007 F150..

**I'm not promoting Progressive or denouncing Allstate. Just sharing personal instances with each company**

That's how it starts, but they have to pay for the discounts somehow. Once consumers accept this it's only a matter of time before they start charging extra for the bad driving.

It is a black box for your car it monitors for quick starts, speed, braking distance, hard braking and how often you exceed 80+ mph.

On a related topic, has anyone let your power or gas company install the "free energy saving thermostats". Same type of deal, where you could possibly save some money but the long term goal of the power provider is to regulate your use of power. The power companies can program those thermostats to keep you from setting your AC to low or your heat to high(they decide what is to low or high of course) and when and how long you're unit will run. The whole thing is BS to me.

f*k putting any more computers, monitors, tracking devices or chit like that in/on/around my car...LOL at the guy who said the same, then inquired about one for his kid...thank god they didn't have this chit when I was a kid...It is a choice of companies, though, or rights would be violated...I'm with AAA, have the 09 GT/CS, 11 Maro and my 250 there...I pay less than $90 per vehicle, full coverage, $500 deductible, 1 accident (some chick didn't "see" my jacked up 250 and pulled out in front of me, gf of another cop, ya ta f*ing da, my fault)...been decent to me thus far...USAA for the win, if you can get on it...

I have had a couple claims for windshields and a scratch on the Jetta and it never went up. Hope this helps, check them out. oh, and the $86 also covers my AAA roadside coverage.

OBDI and OBDII data loggers have been around since OBDI was implemented,
As long as its volontary and not mandatory its a fine O for me.
I like safe drivers around me.

Your Ford S197 already has a short term data storing device, folks...

What I dont understand is why a credit report is needed before
they will quote me insurance. I dont owe anyone any money
and have never needed credit or a credit card...
Because I have 'no credit history' I get zonked with the premiums.

BGE does that here. A friend has that and during the summer's heat wave, we were seeing 110 deg for a couple of weeks in a row. His elderly mother was at the house and BGE would let the AC run for 15 mins at a time, and then shut it off for 1-2 hours. He called BGE from work to complain and they said it would be more than a MONTH until someone could come out and turn the box off.

It always starts out as "voluntary", or "completely optional"... Then things change.

A lot of these restrictions, and regulators start out as optional, but then as time passes, become mandated and regulated by higher authorities.

I like the CURRENT plan going on with this progressive, and I think it's a neat and rewarding system (albeit flawed). But I wouldn't expect it to stay that way forever.

I asked my insurance agent about that years ago.

The thought/belief/fallacy is that if you have poor credit then you are considered irresponsible with your finances. If you are considered Irrisponsible with your credit it's implied you will be an irresponsible driver or stressed out from your financial problems enough to affect good judgement...

It's a red herring argument at best. (Logic term) Or more to the point a "burden of proof" comparison.

They say the two are related yet no proof exists either way.
