Exclamation Gears question

I get my taxes back in a couple weeks and gears are one of the few things I would like to get. I don't know much about choosing a gears. I'm looking for better acceleration like everyone, I do most of my driving around the city. Should I be looking at something like 3.73 or maybe 4.10 and whats the overall differences between higher and lower gears

go with 4.10s if you don't have FI on... yours is 05 GT and it comes with 3.55s stock if I remember correct. You won't feel a big different by upgrading to 3.73s...And I'm happy I picked 4.10..
Some one correct me if I'm wrong...

Do 05-09 GTs come stock with 3.55s? I thought it was 3.31s, just like the v6s?

OP, do a search. I can't tell you how many thousands of threads there are around here with people asking opinions on gears.

Need more info.

4.10s are great for city since you won't be high up in the rpm bands often (if you keep it below 45mph). However, if you have a manual, first gear is now pretty much useless from red lights because you'll be shifting very quickly into second if you're wanting to keep your shift points at what you're used to.

Quick overview:

4.10: if you have an automatic or do city driving

3.73: if you have a manual or do a lot of highway driving.

Search the forum threads. You're bound to stumble across hours of reading material.

05-06 comes with 3.55 stock, and 07-09 with 3.55 as option if I remember correct.

Here is how the gear ratios worked out
05-06

Auto:3.31
Man: 3.55

07-09
All were 3.31, with manuals having an option of 3.55

Also note that at some point (which I'd like to find out for sure) the 3650 5th gear ratio went from .68 to .62. Which makes a nice difference for highway rpm's when calculating it out.

I was just getting ready to point this out. Glad you beat me to it!

My 07 GT automatic came with 3:55 gears. Go with 4:10 if you have a manual and 3:73 for Automatic. I've had my 3:73 gears in now for 4 years now and love them...

I'm a 4.10 guy. They rock and biggest noticeable difference. Since you live in Minnesota and likely have to garage queen it during the winter, might as well live large and make it a rocket off the line and try to break your neck. With the SC I think I can almost get the front wheels off the ground...just need to put good skins and some LCAs on it and Im almost sure I could.
