Considering carputer, working out details.
So I already have the carputer built and I have a touchscreen monitor. Everything I need to put it in the car and get it working.
The question is, how do I hook it up to my sound system? I have never built a custom sound system from scratch.
The touchscreen goes where the head unit (shaker 500) currently is so I would need to replace that right?
I am looking to have all the control from the touchscreen and have the head unit hidden. I do not use CD's, only AUX input so I wouldn't need access to put CD's or anything in, just to be able to use the stock AUX input in my 09' to hook up my phone, most of the other stuff will be stored on the onboard SSD storage for the carputer.
I've tested the carputer in my RX-7 track car and it works great, turn the ignition on and the computer boots up, then when you turn the car off it doesn't just cut power, it goes through a shut-down process. It works great for video, I just need a way to hook it up to my stock audio system.

Standard headphone jack to audio out?
I would reccommend picking up an aftermarket head-unit...
not only do computers sound much better than standard ipods, etc on car stereos,
but it would sound waaaaaaaaay better on an aftermarket..plus you wouldn't have the giant bulky shaker to hide.

It's an Intel Atom board w/ custom enclosure (soon to be rebuilt into something sleeker) and I managed to fit it into a package about 7" x 7" x 4".

over at mp3car.com they are ALL about carputers.
related note, I purchased a dash kit someone built a monitor into when i was going to put in a carpc. But went a different route and its been sitting here.
Pm me and I'll send some more info if you would like to buy

So if I get rid of the Shaker head unit I will need an amplifier to push the speakers, right? Or is there a separate stock amp somewhere? And yeah, just stereo out to the new head unit (3.5mm) and stereo in for my phone so I can use Pandora (3.5mm as well). I have a soundcard in the carputer so it should sound great so long as I can push the speakers.

The shaker unit should be powered by extra amps that are located in different parts of the car..(under the dash I think), i'd hit up some wiring diagrams. The head-unit is not an amp.
@Lem, I'm somewhat intersted, PM me more details please?

The touchscreen I bought plops right into where the shaker unit is without modification.
