It is called a freak accident, Iron.

In a corvette you are so low to the ground that when you have a big *** tahoe in front of you where you can't see in front that slams on their brakes all of a sudden is hard as hell to avoid. 18 years old or 40 years old the same thing could happen to either.

Very true...anyone can mess up shifting. If you say you haven't messed up once while you're driving...your lying!

Its really ticking me off how they're giving you crap for this.

Hell I've messed up - just - didn't do any damage worth noting.

People are going to be dicks all the time...not too worried about it. Apparently in their lives they are "perfect" and never mess up.

Thank you. The insurance is coming out sometime this week but they said by the sound of it that it is totaled.

I blame your parents. No one would have written an insurance policy on him and that car, at least not one he could afford. I doubt anyone would have financed an 18 year old either.

If your parents finance him another vette, well, they be damn stupid!
There is no reason he couldn't find financing for a $20k car. 18 yr olds finance $20K cars everyday. Hell, I had a mortgage when I was 20. And there is no reason he couldn't find insurance either. Insurance for my Z06 is cheaper than it was for my LS1 Camaro and there are plenty of younger people driving those on their own insurance. He is 18 and can be responsible for his own actions, there is no reason to blame his parents.

Accidents happen, just because he was a young person driving a fast car does not mean it was the stereotypical young kid trying to show off or do something stupid. It could have just been... an accident.

Would you rather him have been driving a larger, slower car with less braking capability that may have caused a higher impact collision?

I don't get all the criticism, mustang0672 I am glad your brother is okay.

I think old people look at the generation and see nothing good.

Well - yeah - most of this generation has gone to hell - probably 85% of my generation is f*ing stupid.

BUT - for those of the 15% - we do some pretty impressive things. This summer, I'm putting myself through skydiving school. Next year, I'm getting a CFII rating. This summer I'm getting my CDL.

So they need to stop giving crap.
