Default Gauge Problem

I know there are posts on the this topic already on here but I'm looking for a little more info. I recently bought a 2005 Mustang knowing that the fuel gauge wasn't working, the previous owner stated that the fuel level sending was bad. I have noticed that the low fuel light still comes on even though the needle doesn't move. Am I wrong to assume that the sending unit is working because it's telling me that the fuel is low? I also just noticed that the tachometer isn't moving. Are these problems related were the fuel fuel gauge and tachometer are side by side? How can I test the gauges?

The 05's and some 06's had issues with the stepper motors in the gauges. Do some research. You can replace them yourself or send the cluster out for repair. I don't know if the fuel light is related.

+1... Fuel light shouldn't be related. My fuel gauge went bad and was on the E side and the light would come on when I was actually low on fuel. Ended up replacing the whole cluster after a failed repair attempt lol.

I am currently experiencing stepper motor issues with my RPM gauge and temperature gauge. The RPM is off a bit and the temperature gauge only works when the temp is 60 degrees or higher. I have not experienced any issues with my fuel guage (knock on wood).

Many. However it seems the internal MF search feature is broken at the moment again. So google is the second best bet. Many threads about replacing them here and other mustang specific forums. These are good examples:

There are a couple sellers on eBay who sell the steppers for under 9.00 each, which isn't bad. I don't know what type cluster you have, but if you only have the 4 gauge, you might just consider upgrading to a 6 gauge. If you don't have MyColor, you could then with only adding the switch.

I changed my base v6 4 gauge cluster to a GT (Foose 6 gauge) unit. All the gauges work correctly and the tach is correct also. It is nice having the 140 mph speedo and gauges to look at. Especially now with the MyColor option installed.

Good luck.

Thanks for your help! Ordered stepper motors this AM and will install them next week and go from there if it doesn't work.
