Default Shifting problem - still.

Okay, over the past 6 months I have installed poly motor mounts and the TQ limiters. Every gear is fine with the exception of 1st to 2nd under high rpm's (over 5,000 rpm). It will grind going into 2nd grear every time. If I keep it under 5k rpm, it seems fine. This only happens with 1st to 2nd gear. All the others are fine even at 6200 rpm.

I know these 3650's are known for gear shifting issues. The car only has 21,000 miles. I'm not new to a stick, I have been using a stick for over 30 years. Could this be syncros at only 21k miles?? I heard that there was an issue with 1st to 2nd grinding and that there was a TSB, but I' not sure.

I have had the same problem. My car has 58K on it and I bought it with 56 on it. I think the previous owner drove it pretty hard. That being said, I switched to Royal Purple and it has vastly improved. I have put about 700 miles on it since the change. It isn't immediately noticable but it REALLY improved. Try it, it is easy to do and doesn't cost much.

Funny you should say that. I just switched over to RP this weekend. I noticed a small improvement but nothing to jump up and down about. I'll give that more mileage to work in.

I have a feeling its the syncro's but no facts to back that up. I called Tremec to ask tech support for some input. The tech told me my clutch is not fully disengaging which I think is BS. First its a brand new Exedy Mach 600 Stage 4 Clutch and if that was the case it would grind in every gear at high RPM's, not just 1st to 2nd.

Does the V6 come with the 3650 as well? I thought they came with the 3550 which could have the same problem, not sure.

No Redfire is just a pimp and swapped out transmissions.

Would bad syncros casue it to grind from 1st to 2nd only at high RPM's? In my case its only over 5,000 rpm most times.

Well, this sorta answers my question a little. What's with Ford and Tremec, they can't get this fixed? This seems to have been going on for a long time.

Apparently this was to address the "cold crunch" which I thought I had, but now just seems normal. There was a small run of transmissions that if it was under 40 degrees (literally seemed like that was the magic number), the first shift into 2nd or 3rd, depending on the problem synchro, would grind.

I had this done simply because I thought my trans felt rough, especially in the cold, but had no grinding. Regardless I got the dealership to perform it, and had no change afterwards in shift feel. I've never felt my trans was "smooth," but it's a Mustang.

I've been told the problem you're having is due to the remote mount design that our cars are set up with. Granted I've never had the problem, knock on wood. I'm not sure why. I've HEARD in 08 they started coming with different or reinforced k members, whether that's true or not I'm not sure. Which is weird, as you have an 08.

What surprises me the most, is that apparently you've done most of what fixes this problem.
