Yes some ARE from incorrect installation.
However LOTS are not.

I hope as well you can continue to operate problem free if you have Motives.
If not... at least gear swaps aren't THAT expensive.

I don't have Motives. Does anyone know why there's no break in process for a new car? Or is there? Isn't it basically the same deal? Just curious.

My dealer didn't tell me about any break in period on mine either, they said I was good to go and that was all. I have no whine or extra sounds from the diff yet.

Factory cars aren't really 0 mile cars.. They area already "broken in" since everything needs to be seated and tested before it goes to the dealer.. If the dealer installed them though afterwards for you and didn't tell you to break them in then that is wrong..

As for Motive gears, I didn't know that. Crazy, Motive used to be really good stuff..

Different results for different cars, driving styles, etc. I've had my installer and his friend put in fresh gears on fox bodies before and tear them down the track the next day without any issues. Yet it's "do at your own risk". It's not recommended for the longevity of the gears and the break in period should be followed. Another reason to change the oil, if there are any shreds from the gears breaking in, it would be cleaned out and not tearing other things up for the rest of the life of the gears.

I'm not sure that an M on front is o.k.

They may have changed the M from the back to the front.
In fact I believe I read where Motive gears DO start with the M at
the front many times.
You don't want Motive gears.

You can change the gear ratio with your handheld tuner.
These are the two I'm looking at. I'm not really so sure what the difference is between them? I know I want 4.10 but I'm just starting to educate myself on the mod. Thanks for the help.

These part numbers have me confused as well buddy.
I cannot find them on Ford Racing site.
The part number I am seeing listed for the Ford Racing gears is
M-4209-88410 on Ford's site for the Ring and Pinion:
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...KeyField=13229

and then Part Number M-4210-B2 for the installation kit.
http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts...KeyField=13180

You want a FULL INSTALLATION KIT which means you want a installation
kit WITH NEW BEARINGS. If you do NOT get new bearings you could EASILY wind up with problems. Don't let ANYONE tell you different.

I would call Ford If I were you and have them verify what you need.
Tell them you want the Ford Racing Gears that are NOT MOTIVE made.
Also tell them you want a full installation kit that INCLUDES NEW BEARINGS.
Tell them your year model and other details.
They can tell you if the ones from AM or Brenspeed are the correct ones and are NOT Motive.
Or you could just order them directly from Ford Racing.

I am pretty sure the parts I listed are the ones you need, and I am not sure why they
are listing other part numbers on those sites.
With all this confusion.. you NEED to call to get verification.
Call them at this number: Tech Line (800) FORD788

Again tell them your car details, that you want Ford Racing 4.10's that are MADE by Ford Racing and NOT Motive,
and that you want a FULL INSTALLATION KIT that INCLUDES bearings.
If you tell them this they can refer you to the correct things to order even if they have
changed the item numbers or I made some mistake. I would NOT order the parts from
AM or Brenspeed UNLESS you confirm they are NOT Motive and are FORD RACING made.
Again you can order them direct from Ford Racing when you talk to them on the phone if you would rather do that.
