Default K&N CAI

I installed a K&N 57-2565 FIPK last night on my 2005 Ford Mustang GT. This particular model doesn't require a tune. I picked it up on line from a place called Auto Anything for $200, after a 15% first time customer discount. It took about 2 hours to install. The instructions are ok, but there's definitely room for improvement. The part that gave me the most trouble was removing the hydrocarbon trap, which apparently only was on early 2005 GT's. Per the instructions, I installed the hydrocarbon trap inside the K&N Filter. Apparently if this is not done, you will have poor performance with your vehicle. Has anyone out here run across this? If so, does it make a difference or is it more restrictive on the K&N System? Thanks
