Temperature gauge

Default Temperature gauge

Got an '05 mustang gt and the temp guage is broke. At all times, Even when the car has been running, the temp guage is like below "C". Its obviously broken and I was wondering what it would take to fix it and how to fix it. Thanks

Do a search on "stepper motor" The 05's and older 06's have chronic stepper motor issues in the gauge cluster.

My temp gauge only works when it is over 60 degrees....If not, it stays below the "C" level.

Mine has been working, but apparently everyone has issues with these, and I remember reading a thread awhile back which pretty much said that they only gave 3 different readings and were totally useless. I was sorta wondering what everyone else thought about that; because if that's the case maybe you should just say to hell with it and get an aftermarket,

Also, my RPM gauge is sometimes off between 300 - 750 RPM. Some days it works, other days it doesn't.

My temp needle starts out at C and works its way to the midpoint of the gauge, where it stays as long as the engine is running. The needle does vary with temperature from C to midpoint. I think the needle is heavily damped when it reaches midpoint and probably won't go higher until you are overheating quite badly. So it doesn't really give you much, if any, warning about slight overheating.

I have read tons of posts and seen tons of videos with 2005 mustang having electronics (particularly) the gauges go out. The gauges will start to do weird stuff and eventually crap out. I watched a couple videos on how to fix this. just take off your gauge cluster and replace the stepper motors. seems pretty straight forward, but you gotta get the latter model of the little motor, not the ones that come standard on the '05 (DUH). its either pay 4-10 dollars per motor or pay 500-900 bucks for the dealership to do it.

There are a few places that you can send your cluster to that will do the replacement rather inexpensively but for that trouble you may as well do the entire job.

Thats true and I agree. I just worry about the soldering. Haven't done muchof that but i may have abuddy that can help

just put in an after market real gauge. water temp is probably easiest to install, plug on the drivers side under exhaust manifold to place sensor. get a 3/8 npt to 1/8 npt brass plug and put sensor there. while your at it, put a real oil pressure gauge. SOS 2 gauge pillar pod would look great. i recomend speedhut gauges, you can custom order to your liking and are made in america with lifetime warranty. if you order the speedhut gauges they come with the correct brass fittings. i went with their legacy gauges, come with better sensors than the lower priced gauges. speedhut's web site, you can customize the gauges and see day and night how they look. cheaper than autometer cobalt gauges.
