Shifter ponderings (09 GT500) Replacing stock!
Hey fellas,
Ok so here's the deal... stock 2007-2009 GT500 shifters are major lame. Who wants the stock look, pffft, not I gentlemen. Not I.
Alright, so, here are my questions in short order, throw me some bones of wisdom, because the shifter upgrade will be numero-uno on the endless mod list as soon as the timing is right.

- What's the best looking choice out there with an exposed flat-stick Hurst style, in either brushed or polished stainless (prefer brushed)?
- What's the best performance wise that reduced the stock throw by 20% or more, but not TOO much, I'm not Mario Andretti here, I just want more precise quicker shifts (also, I will eventually be at 800 horsepower or so by 2014, so not sure if that matters, or if that's basically all the flywheels and tranny)

Choices are basically MGW, Barton, Steeda, FRPP, & the Shelby Performance Parts one that's been discontinued. Those are the main ones I'm familiar with. The FRPP & Barton ones have flat sticks. MGW doesn't, & I'm not sure about the Steeda. Here's a link to the Barton: http://www.bartonindustries.com/2005...ustang-GT.html

Seems like Barton has a lot of high quality features and has quite a following on many forums from non-affiliated members, touting their springs and USA construction. So what's the specific differences between the two that led you to make that claim, I think something that looks good can work just as good too, since vehicles are all about looks and the connection with the driver anyway, unless you're in the NASCAR circuit.
Which model Bartons have you used to compared against MGW?

Here is my opinion...
The shift linkage design of the 05-10 Mustangs sucks, period. A 20% shorter throw might seem impressive at first but it feels like stock after a while because it simply isn't that much of a difference.
Exposed Shift Levers Steeda does offer an exposed shift lever, but it's not all that stylish. Hurst and possibly this Burton shifter are more appealing.
I have a Steeda Tri-Ax and it isn't short enough anymore. My first impression of it was "wow..." maybe something is wearing out and it needs reconditioning but I don't think that's the case more than I am just too used to it.
With that being said, I think the MGW is the most customizable shifter available but you are sacrificing appearance. Though there are alternatives to appearance including shifter bezels (I only recommend the one offered by Ford. Part #8R3Z-7277-BA.
as well as custom boots and of course shifter *****.
