Oh NO! Paint starting to bubble and Chip
So major shout out to whomever warned me about the paint on the underside of the hood starting to bubble and chip. Had to go get another key made as when I bought the car it only came with one key so I checked under the hood real quick and found a quarter size paint chip on the drivers side and major bubbling on the passenger side that had made its way all the way onto the top of the hood. Good think I looked too because the factory warranty expires in less than 50 miles.
Thanks again,
Matthew

I have this also, I am wondering if i should have it repainted. What did the dealer offer to do for you? My dealer said they would take the car for a few days, sand down and repaint that area of the hood, and some of the side fender to blend.. im not sure if i want them to do this, seems like its a bit risky and may come out looking obvious/worse than when it went in.
Anyone had this repaired on their car? If so can you let us know what they did and the results?

I just decided to leave it. Funny thing is, this is my 2nd hood, the first had to be replaced in an accident. This 2nd hood is OEM, refinished by the dealership.
So, it's started to bubble (not chip) near the front edge of the hood, but not the lip.
It's been like that for a few years, hasn't gone worse. I'm assuming it's the aluminum and how it reacts with the paint?
I also had a 2004 Expedition Eddie Bauer, and it had the same issue with the tail gate.

Here are pictures of the damage

I am going to have them do the work. They said they will have to contact Ford as to if the hood needs to be replaced or just repainted. Either way it will come with a lifetime warranty for the work and wont cost me a dime so. Funny thing was when I bought the car and asked the dealer about the bubble on the top of the hood lip he told me "it looks like a paint chip someone tried to fix, and did a bad job at it." haha. He didn't even check to see if it was a factory defect, good thing I did.

Since the hood is aluminum and has been contaminated with iron or some other metal, even if its repaired the rust/corrosion will reappear. The best fix is a replacement hood, but my guess is that is unlikely under Fords warranty. Good luck.

Well I will get the warranty in writing so if the problem comes back Ford will have to fix it again. I'm just happy to get it in under warranty as I have 35,966 miles on it and only have the factory 36,000 mile warranty on the paint. If I would have waited another week the fix would be coming out of my pocket. And that would make the wife pisssssssed.
