X or H
Here's my two cents, because last year I tried all three styles of midpipe, with both straight through (MBRP) and chambered (Hooker Aerochamber) mufflers. If I say "catted" I'm meaning that I used the high flow catted downpipes from the Magnaflow X pipe.
Catted X pipe (Magnaflow): Was loud and a little raspy with the straight through mufflers, but was too loud for me leaving at 6:15 AM every morning. I swapped to the Aerochambers, it was much bassier, but did not have the tone or volume I wanted. Drone was about average with both mufflers.
Pro Chamber: Tried this one first, catted. At idle it was really quiet, when you got on it it was decently loud with both mufflers. But the low RPM drone with this thing was AWFUL. It about gave me a headache driving around town. It didn't last very long. For ****s and giggles I tried it off road with the Aerochambers, and it just didn't sound good. It was stupid loud and raspier than I expected. Tried it for one day and that was that. I was disappointed I spent $400 on it.
H-pipe: Currently I'm running a cut-off stock H-pipe clamped behind the Magnaflow catted downpipes and I love it. It sounds like a Mustang should, IMO. I don't think I ever tried it with the straight through mufflers, probably just as well, because it's decently loud with the Aerochambers. Drone is, again, about average. This is by far my favorite setup.

Your drone is caused by you mac mufflers. If you don't want any drone and an x or H pipe, then Corsa's would have been the way to go. I have the corsa xtremes and a stock h pipe and there is zero drone. The xtremes are the loudest of the Corsa series, but idle quiet and scream at WOT. Trying to find a cheaper method of curing drone will also most likely cause you to spend more money, I have seen way too many exhaust threads of guys swapping mufflers, mid pipes, headers, adding resonators, and dynomat just to get rid of drone. I am aware that Corsa mufflers are on the higher end price wise, but I found mine barely used off a Shelby for $450.00

H pipes do not cause more drone. I have found that they make it less noticeable. Also as many have said, the H pipes have much deeper old school sound and the X pipes have a raspy note. As far as power, the H pipe makes power in the low to mid range where most people use it and the X pipe makes power in the upper rpm range. This is useful but mostly if you are racing your mustang. I also prefer to have glass pacs mounted directly under the cabin instead of axle backs. This setup makes even less drone.
The reason I went with the mufflers under the cabin is that I found out (by experience) is that the drone is caused by having the mufflers behind the axle. I think that the trunk area is amplifying the resonance of the mufflers into the cabin area. As soon as I relocated them to directly under the cabin, no more drone. It worked for me.
