If you have the chance to hear a catted x with a straight through muffler you'll find it gives the exhaust a higher tone than h pipes, but I prefer it because I want my car to sound better than everyone else's.
But everyone has a X pipe on 05-09's because that's all the aftermarket makes...?

It's not a bad sound, but with straight through mufflers it is LOUD. It wasn't the tone I cared for, and like I said, it was too loud for as early as I was leaving every day.

Honestly it's very rare for me to even see an S197 GT here that has exhaust done on it, I've seen several around that have lots of other stuff done but bone stock exhaust.

From what I understand, the H is more for sound while the X is more for performance. The X flows better so that's why I believe most go for the X, I personally didn't see much point in changing the mid from an H to an H so I went with an X (granted that was not the only factor, just one of them).

different platform but .. damn, the x pipe on my 5.0 makes it sound amazing!

I've heard 'raspy' systems on 4 cyls and v6 cars - it sounded terrible on them! 350z's with test pipes instead of cats sound so metallic and pingy and raspy.. ugh. with that as a comparison point: my car doesn't sound anything like that, and may be slightly higher tone at higher RPM's compared to an H, but I wouldn't call it rasp. if it actually is rasp and I don't know what I'm talking about, my new stance is: v8 rasp sounds awesome! : P

Ok guys.....Results are in!!!
08 Mustang GT Auto, Mac Axel backs.

I added a pypes cut/clamp X-Pipe and while the exhaust note is not louder it is toned down a few octives. The 1500-2200 rpm drone is compleatly gone. Its like driving a compleatly diff car. It seems more responsive all around.

Whoa

Serious?

How much drone did you have with the stock H pipe? Adding the cut/clamp x-pipe eliminated the drone? As in like... gone?

This is awesome if true.

That's a big ****in deal bro.

Like, big ****in deal! I've heard a few people say it "might" help mute the drone, but it's nice to hear someone say it actually did mute the drone.

Very cool. Thanks.

I got one in exchange for detailing someone's car, but never got around to putting it on my stock pipe. The drone is ridiculous with Stingers as well. I'll have to put it on!

Great news! It's so rare to hear someone happy with their exhaust. I prefer the sound of x-pipe...its perfect for the 3v engines. Sounds like crap on Chevys.

Now I cant say that it will get rid of it with the Stingers, but I can say with confidence that the Mac Stainless Chambered mufflers will not get removed off my car now.....

We need a sticky'd post with testiments as to which exhaust combos do not drone. NOT this is mine and im happy, but this is mine and it dosent drone.
