Question Transmission issue(?) Help!

Hey guys, new member.
So today driving to college (07 mustang deluxe, Automatic 70k miles, purchased 5 months ago) this happened a few times. I started watching it, at 20mph, my rpm would shoot up to 5k+ and it would sound like i was revving without my foot even on the gas. I pulled over 3 different times to restart the engine, and it kept happening. The last time i pulled into a parking space, and when i tried reversing, nothing. It was like the car was stuck in park and the engine just revved. Anyone know what these two things mean? The car is at a dealer now but will be checked tomorrow. Im hoping its the transmission because i have 100% coverage up to 100k on that.
Thanks
Drew

If you have v-6 with the 5r55s automatic you will probably have transmission trouble.

Not a fan of it personally.

A revving engine without having your foot on the gas has nothing to do with the transmission. sorry.
Could be in the accelerator pedal assembly, throttle body or the ecu that controls them.

I hope you are able to get it fixed. Several years ago, I pulled into a parking space and when I shifted from Drive (about 600 rpm) and shifted to Park, the engine revved to red line. My foot was only on the brake pedal and not on the gas pedal. The dealer did various tests, but could not find anything wrong. Ford engineering said not to do any more work unless it happened again. Ford engineering insisted I must have had my foot on both the brake pedal and the gas pedal, which was not the case.

Hint--If it starts revving high when it should not, give the gas pedal a blip. That got the revs down to normal for me. It hasn't happened to me again, but if you look at the NHTSA complaints for the 2007 Mustang, you will find plenty of complaints about unexplained high revving.
