Default Check Engine light

2011 GT 5.0 auto. Has 15000 miles.
Belongs to my cousin Ray who races it in local NHRA bracket racing. The car is used for racing only.
For the past 3 seasons it ran 12.30 to 12.40 with 3.55 gears and dead hook traction.
Last month he had the below mods done to bring the car closer to the 12.0 Sportsman limit.
Modifications include,
Boss intake, BBK throttle body,
Kooks long tubes, some kind of louder mufflers,
3.55 gears, 1 piece drive shaft and GT500 brake booster. No other mods.
After dyno tuning it made 379 whp at 6500 rpm, 334 wtq. Torque seems low.
Since tracks are closed he hasnt made any 1/4 mile passes since the mods but the check engine light came on.
Since having the mods done he's driven the car up & down the driveway and a few 3-4 mile drives. Then check engine light came on. He had to build ramps to get it in the driveway and is why he drove it in the driveway for 20 mins.
Can the auto parts store retrieve the code?
Care to guess why the eng lite came on?
What should we check before returning it to the shop for $125 an hr.

Thanks

Any auto store (O'Reilly's, AutoZone, etc.) can pull the code.

Without the code all one can do is guess -- and there are probably 1,000 guesses that they could make. Although one guess is that the long tubes don't have the cats so you probably triggered the code for that if the tuner didn't turn off the sensors.

I would think a 5.0 with the modifications you have, you should be a little over 400 hp to the wheels...………...

It depends on the dyno. The operator would have to temporarily program the ECU to keep the tranny in 5th gear with the torque converter locked during the dyno run to get the most accurate results.
I'd also wager that the CEL came on because the car no longer has cats and the rear O2 sensors haven't been disabled in the ECU tune.

Actualy, it doed have cats.
His exhaust sys is Kooks 1³/⁴ LTs to Kooks 3" catted H pipe to MagnaFlo axel back. Its quiet compared to my Kooks 1⁷/⁸ LTs to non catted h pipe to Borla ATAK mufflers on my C6 Corvette.
I need to check yutube for dyno vids with his combo.
What can we expect his ETs to be with this combo as mentioned in the orig post?

Many thanks guys.

What I bolded is my guess as to what caused the light. BBK TB is junk on the Mustang.

Without knowing the code scanned though, again, it's just a guess.

The owner needs to scan the ECU for codes. Only then will we know where the problem lies.
With his additional mods, 12.0-12.1 should be achievable but I think his next step should be to upgrade to a higher rpm stall torque converter.
