I've used this forum various times for different projects/repairs on my 2009 Mustang, but couldn't find anything on this particular repair besides "bypass the switch". So I figured I would submit this in the hopes that if someone wants to change this out their self instead of paying a mechanic or dealership they have pictures.
Time: 1 minute to get in position under the dash, another minute to remove and install the new switch, honest!
Part required: Motorcraft SWE-5020.
DO NOT push the plunger of the new switch all the way down like I did when I opened the box. The switch self adjusts, and if you do this the clutch will NOT be able to actuate the switch fully, resulting in a no start condition. If you do what I did, pull the plunger to its extended position before installing in the bracket. I'm not sure the bracket will hold the switch in place while you pull on it, and the bracket looks like a harder repair than the switch.
If your Mustang doesn't start, this switch is worth looking at, as it self-adjusts. You can pull the plastic plunger out and press the clutch pedal in again, and it might fix itself. My switch gave up completely, so I shorted the switch with some foil to allow my car to start.
To install, simply do the opposite of below.
Ford Part #s for this switch.
Pressing in the tab furthest away from the clutch pedal releases this switch from the bracket holding it.
Here is the plug dangling after removing it from the bracket, plug still attached.
The plug is locked to the switch with a metal spring clip.
Press the tab of the metal clip towards the plastic housing and the plug will be simple to remove.
