Default Dead Battery

I purchased my 2007 GT new off the lot. At the time I was working a rotational traveling job. Basically I was gone out of state for three weeks and then Id have two weeks off. I never had an issue with my car being dead when I would come home. That rotation changed to 2 weeks out of state and 1 week home. Car never had issues with a dead battery. Well the last 6 or so years I have had to deal with a battery drain (dead batteries). Fortunately walmart has free replacement. My solution through this was to just disconnect my battery terminals. So i would do this and sure at times id forget and have to get a new battery from walmart. It was turning into a PITA. About 3 weeks ago I took the car into town so could get my phone fixed. I parked. Went in for what only took about 5 minutes to repair. Got in my car. Bam car is dead. WTH!! Had the guy jump my car. Got in and noticed my charge wasn't doing good and thought hopefully i will get home. I never did. I was stuck at lights at a busy intersection. Called 911 and tow truck. Got my car towed. Sat in the garage for about a week. Replaced the alternator and called this old repair shop down the road and explained my situation. His thoughts were the car has a lot of drain when the car is off. He suggested a maintenance charger since i dont drive my car regularly. It only has about 45k on it. I purchased the Battery Tender from Amazon but they are readily available at walmart. I plugged it in and connected it. At first it was charging my battery but then switched to maintain mode. We are getting ready to fly to Aruba tomorrow for 2 weeks. It will be interesting to see if this works. I think the problem is solved now. I just need to run a cable from the battery to my front end so I dont have to open the hood every time. Anyway thought id share since I see this posting a lot. I do have a remote start and After market head unit. My dead battery problems seem to have started after i had the remote start system installed

I think you've found your fix. It seems that your remote start system is placing a large parasitic drain on the battery.

Yep, always look at any changes that took place immediately preceding the problem. Most likely that most recent change is the source of the issue.

Newer cars with remote starts and other high tech features usually have a built-in battery monitoring system so that you don't end up draining you battery into oblivion.
