Thats a pretty simple question. Its not Vortech. Ford is using what I consider cheap rods in the 05's and up. I've blown 2 engines so far and now we are building a 14psi forged 3 valve engine with main briddles. No more problems and 600+ rear wheel HP.

It really comes down to power and how much you want to spend. Twin screw blowners I wouldn't give you a dime for. I have had them on several cars never got over 10,000 miles before the seals started to leak. If you want the motor to last stock with a vortech stay at 8-9lbs and leave the limiter at 6,200rpm. The motor will last a long time and make 400+ to the rear wheels. Its just how fast you want to go.

airfoil is 100% right. I'm curious what vortech system your friend had. If he went with the T-trim system, it does not surprise me the rods went. If he used a smaller pulley to get more boost on the s-trim, I wouldn't be surprised either. If he was using their standard high output kit, then I am VERY suprised the rod went. Installed correctly, the standard high output kit only makes 8-10 psi at Max boost and is very reliable. You'll get around 400 RWHP (give or take 10-30 depending on your tune) I have heard of a lot of guys throwing rods, but it has always been tying to use the T-trim system or bumping up the boost with a smaller pulley. I am also building a whole new motor set-up for 1000 HP and we're going to put around 650 to the wheels. But as airfoil pointed out, it's not cheap and there's a lot more you have to consider. Having a 10 sec street car with the new mustang takes a lot more committment than just motor. You need to subframe the car, get a girdle, seriously upgrade your suspension, and get it caged if you want to drag race, etc, etc... The thing I like about the vortech centrifugal technology is the fact it will keep making boost as rpm increases. My new motor will have an awesome set of cams and I'll be shifting at around 8K and the vortech will make 14 psi without even swapping pulleys.

Funny then that saleen would stake its reputation on something with such a short lifespan. I think i will go with what i have, based on my needs and situation. I bought a Saleen kit from JDM, including cold air package from Steeda and tunes to match
1 the desire for bigblock torque with a modded stock motor, no waiting required for the boost to kick in!!
After having owned and driven some rather fast modified bigblock stuff, i wouldn't be satisfied with anything less than an overabundance of lowspeed power.
2 A good looking system that appears to have grown there! No other addon system has the good looks of the Saleen, and being my desicion, it doesn't matter what others think
3 The ability to make more power in the future, because i am a speed freak, and doubt that i will leave it alone for its entire life, especially considering i ordered a smaller pulley and tune to upgrade to about 425 rwhp even before i have a chance to put it on.
The Saleen may not have the allout power producing potential of some systems, but it will fill my needs for a long time to come. There are Not many ( ANY?)places you can drive on the street and use the full amount of power the Saleen could make in a max effort setup, and if i have a need for that kind of speed, i take my 528 cubic inch alky injected race car to the track where there is enough traction to accomodate an 8.80 second ride!!

I've found that the search feature for this site doesn't always give the best results. Frequently I find a topic by chance that the search feature didn't give...

Could be me...

I have purchased this from Vortec: 4FU218-028SQ

It was simple installation. Nothing was done extra. We followed exact instructions. They installed the SC, started the engine to heat up. Drove out of garage with RPM between 2000-3000. Suddenly bang from under the hood and that was and of it. I am really confused. Would fuel octane had an effect. This car is in Europe. You think they have higher octane ratios and somehow the mixture was not right? John

I'm a new member with a Saleen supercharger ? I have an auto with the stock saleen program. I'm getting a big time lag between shifts. On the 2-3 shift the car is falling on its face. I have all the JDM goodies on the way. I'm just wanting to know if anyone else is having this problem.

If you call your dealer, they can tell you all kinds of problems on a Mustang and one of them is gear shifting problem.

I think the saleen program is pulling to much timing out on the shift and its either loading up with fuel or it just doesn't have enough power to get back in the power band after the delayed shift
