Another member on this site (SMP) had a similar problem and also his computer kept going into failsafe after he installed his Saleen s/c. I have no problems stating that the SALEEN TUNE THAT COMES WITH THE CHARGER SUCKS! Everyone I know with one had to have the car retuned. SMP ended up switching completely from the SCT provided tune to a diablo custom tune and his car responded greatly. He is currently making around 440 RWHP with just a few other mods on pump gas.

I have purchased this from Vortec: 4FU218-028SQ

It was simple installation. Nothing was done extra. We followed exact instructions. They installed the SC, started the engine to heat up. Drove out of garage with RPM between 2000-3000. Suddenly bang from under the hood and that was and of it. I am really confused. Would fuel octane had an effect. This car is in Europe. You think they have higher octane ratios and somehow the mixture was not right? John
I'm confused - you say WE followed instructions and then THEY installed the s/c. It had to be a install error. This charger wouldn't even be making any boost (certainly not enough to throw a rod) at 3000 rpm. I doubt the gas had anything to do with it either unless those damn french tried to run the car on vegetable oil!

Here is what that baby will look like on your car...... someday anyway.

I noticed you didn't mention the Whipple. Look that one up and check it out.
Probably not mentioned because they can't firm up a release date....then again, KB seems to have the same issues.

And technically I guess you could say there are 4 screw chargers out there since Roush had theirs available on thier web site also.

"It really comes down to power and how much you want to spend. Twin screw blowners I wouldn't give you a dime for. I have had them on several cars never got over 10,000 miles before the seals started to leak"
Funny then that saleen would stake its reputation on something with such a short lifespan. I think i will go with what i have, based on my needs and situation. I bought a Saleen kit from JDM, including cold air package from Steeda and tunes to match
1 the desire for bigblock torque with a modded stock motor, no waiting required for the boost to kick in!!
After having owned and driven some rather fast modified bigblock stuff, i wouldn't be satisfied with anything less than an overabundance of lowspeed power.
2 A good looking system that appears to have grown there! No other addon system has the good looks of the Saleen, and being my desicion, it doesn't matter what others think
3 The ability to make more power in the future, because i am a speed freak, and doubt that i will leave it alone for its entire life, especially considering i ordered a smaller pulley and tune to upgrade to about 425 rwhp even before i have a chance to put it on.
The Saleen may not have the allout power producing potential of some systems, but it will fill my needs for a long time to come. There are Not many ( ANY?)places you can drive on the street and use the full amount of power the Saleen could make in a max effort setup, and if i have a need for that kind of speed, i take my 528 cubic inch alky injected race car to the track where there is enough traction to accomodate an 8.80 second ride!!
haha.. you make it sound like saleen is unbeatable. Try reading some post from saleen owners.. forget about the leaking seals.. but look in the box.. there have been many complaints about their oil soaked in the shipping boxes. Also I, ifyou buy the standard kit from saleen it is at the same price as or more then vortch or procharger with less hp (btw word is saleen will rais the price in a month a couple of 100).. so to make up for that loss of power you have to spend 500+ for pullys 39# injectors and maf. Its not to say saleen is not a good SC.. but they have their problems like all others.

The oil in the shipping box is from turning the box on the wrong side(per saleen). A point not raised is which S/C will bring the most when you get ready to sell your car. I think most people probably relate to Saleen as quality over say KB,Pro-charger, or vortec. I think the saleen looks like it belongs on the car. I'm not saying these other products are not good quality only that the general public relates saleen with quality.

I would agree without as long as it was a saleen car being sold.

Of course I don't think I'm going to get even 1/2 of what the mods cost upon resale. You gotta pay to play. I have had 25K motors blow on the first pass.
