They have a mass air meter.

The mass air flow sensor is in the air intake tube. It is exchangable into CAI kits and will be good to 400 h.p. After 400, it can be stretched beyond its current (voltage) capacity at which point it can be upgraded or a Diablo MAF.ia can be added to extend the current capacity.

I got an AEM brute force intake and the MAF plug doesn't reach the relocated slot. I haven't been able to find any kind of extension wires/plugs. Can I just go to any shop and have them extend the wires?

Since 1988, Mustangs have had MAF. You do not have to replace the MAF with the CAI.
