Default RE: wheel questions

i've narrowed my wheel choice back down to a different 2 seen below...

For tires I was thinkin about 255/35 using BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW-2...

Default RE: wheel questions

Woah, slow down there guys, skilz needs help with correct information and stock 2005/6 GT rims do not have 25-28mm offset (that's the previous gen's offset). OEM 17" rims come with +48mm offset (if mem.serves me), the 18x8.5" rims come with +50mm offset.

As folks are pointing out here, try to stay as close to the OEM offset as possible--the suspension geometry was designed for this range to minimize scrub. BlowByRacing's +38mm offset is as far out as I would push things (and even this, from a handling perspective, concerns me--mere fit is not the only important issue). Also, it sounds like you might want to do some research on the basics of wheel/tire dimensions and their respective measurements, as well as terminology. Ex: "picking a tire" means you're asking for help with the rubber stuff, but your questions seemed about the "rim" or "wheel" (the metal stuff). Asking the former will induce us to consider width, tread, aspect ratios, etc. Asking the later brings about suggestions regarding diameter, rim width, offset, etc. Speaking of which, you cannot run "negative offset" on the new Mustangs without the wheel/tire combo sticking way way out from the fenders. That's why folks sometimes say "use fwd wheels." We're starting with OEM spec of +50mm or so offset, and as you reduce that (go closer to zero, and eventually to negative offsets), you push the wheel/tire combo OUT further.

Plenty of folks are running the sizes you're considering, so you shouldn't have much problem finding the proper fit...and if this is not a performance decision, you should definitely not worry about what others think, just get the tires you like. Good luck!
Best,
-j

Thanks alot Philo... I think I figured it out... I am going to go with the 20x8.5" Zinik Sabini Z9 rims wheels that you see below and wrap them with 255/35/20 BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW-2 tires

While i am at it i will also get the Eibach pro-kit springs. Then I should be done with the wheels and audio... Only left on my list (that i can afford anyways with the magic of a plastic credit card haha) is cold air some body stuff and exhaust..

but again i really do appreciate all your help guys/girls... these forums are an amazing well of knowledge and ideas from an amazing group of drivers and enthusiasts

Default RE: wheel questions

OEM Offset is 45mm on 8"rim. Keep 45mm offset and go to a 9" rim and your wheel will be outward by 1/2". Go less that 45mm and your out even more. Anyway the following I had put in another thread will put you in the know.

An inch is about 25mm. But here's a conv chart:
http://www.voltplastics.com/in_mm.html

Great info on offset and backspacing at:
http://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

In there you'll see as they say: Rear spacing or back spacing is the distance from the backside of the wheel mounting pad to the outside of the rim flange. The offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface of the wheel.

Anyway the stock bullit has 6.295" backspacing and a positive offset of 45mm. (Positive offset: When the back of the wheel mounting pad is closer to the street side of the wheel; here the mounting surface is outboard of the rim centerline.

If for example you used 10" rims with the same 45mm offset (mounting face in same relative postion to centerline as the stock bullit rim) then with the two inch greater rim width you are putting 1 inch more outward of your wheel mounting pad and 1 inch more inward of your wheel mounting pad. Now if you only had a 20mm offset for example that 25mm less (approx 1 inch) will be all outward movement of the rim position (just like you had thrown a 1 inch spacer on there). Now you're out 2" which to me is not acceptable, at least looks wise. Because of a special paint scheme on my GT, and I see how debris already kicks up with stock setup I have gone with FRPP 17x8 chrome bullits. ...just don't want the tires outward anymore than stock; but that's me. Up to an inch seems reasonable I guess; up to you.

As far as the rims clearing the calipers that has to do with the spoke design and how it is built with respect to the bolt face. 05-06 GTs require more clearance than most so you have to know that the rims are proven test fit for the 05-06 GT or order one and test it (before mounting any tire) yourself. OEM bullits come incredibly close to the calipers.

Hope this helps. ...Jim

I will have pics up soon... There are a few things that I wanted to take pictures of but well I ran over my camera... Long story... lol...

By the end of the week I will have a decent update on what was done including the springs, wheels, tires, pedals, antennas, and intake...
