I feel for ya, but at the end of the day, you should have gone down to see the hood and test fitted in person before one drop of paint was applied. Hope it works out for you.

Ok, its been proven. Earlier I put the hood on a friends 05' Mustang GT and it fits like a glove. its a Trufiber GTS-4 and not a Trufiber Venom hood like i had ordered.

*Edit* AM will be getting a very very angry person on the phone tomorrow.

Like everyone said, you NEVER paint fiberglass parts before trial fitting, that is just basic autobody, and the body shop should have known this, as stated by others, they used to ALWAYS require extra work to fit, though in the last decade they have got a lot better and some brands are real good about bolting right on..

Mistakes happen, and I bet that AM would have NO problems if you wanted to return a hood that was shipped incorrectly BEFORE you had it painted.. Just like wheels, you can return them anywhere that sells wheels, UNTIL you mount tires on them, then they are yours.. You painted a hood that was shipped incorrectly, once paint was applied you accepted all responsibility.. AM has excellent service, and I think they went above and beyond in offering you a discount on your next purchase to help you out.. I bet that is more than you would get from most places.

Bottom line, they goofed, shipped you the wrong part, mistakes happen.. If you checked it, they could have had it shipped back and resold it, but YOU ruined it by painting before even looking at it.. now it's worthless to them because of you, and yet you expect them to accept full responsibility??..

Guys, that hood is now painted...
How can you return something that has been tempered with?
I know that AM made a mistake but the unwise OP made one as well...

No, american muscle is the one who really goofed and shipped them the wrong hood. He bought the right hood on their website, they shipped the wrong hood. They should accept it back happily , even if its been painted and mabe pay for his new one to be painted also imo.

needs to be an expensive lesson to them to not ship the wrong products and/or claim products fit your car when they really dont and cause such massive ordeals for customers. And besides, they can probably sell a painted hood for more than an unpainted hood to the right customer anyway.

This is where you're wrong.
I'm sure it says in the return policy that it can't be tempered with because it can't go for re-sell and you ruined the chances to make good on their mistake.
Now, I have the feeling that AM will work something up with the OP but they're not obligated to...

OP, go to a non amateur shop that actually knows about cars. It will serve you well.
If someone come to my shop with a 05/09 hood and tell me it's for my 10/12, I'll tell them that they at least smoke some good quality grass, lol.
The straight front edge of the 05/09 is a dead give away that the hood won't fit the current model.
A REAL shop would want to put the hood on the car first before doing anything else (especially with Trufiber hoods lol), it's called "Dry fitting".

They can not sell a painted hood they did not paint, they do not know the quality of materials used. If they resell it as a painted hood, and the color is off, they would be responsible, if the clear coat comes off 3 months down the road, they would be responsible, it's opening a can of worms which is why NO ONE will accept returns after an item has been painted.

Yes American Muscle goofed, shipped the wrong hood, it was a mistake, no one is disputing that, if it was returned to them in usable condition they would happily exchange, but the OP PINTED the hood before test fitting, THAT makes it HIS fault and no longer American Muscles...

It was American Muscles problem/fault ONLY till the OP wrecked the part and made it unusable.. That is when he took 100% responsibility...

I still can't believe an actual body shop painted it without fitting...

Sorry, you goofed, man up and admit you were wrong and count it as an expensive lesson learned.. Don't try to take shortcuts, and do things right..
I hate when people try to pass the blame onto others that falls on them.. be a man, admit your mistakes and move on

Unfortunately, it seems as though there are faults on both ends. Speaking from experience, AM is a really great company to work with and has top notch customer service! I've experienced issues with a particular product (broken/scuffed) and they continued to send me a new one, until I was happy. It took 3 times, but I received it and was very happy in the end. It was more of their vendors fault and not AM directly.
Worse case, if you can't return it, put the hood on Craigslist and try to sell it locally.
Good luck!
