New owner, basic "fun" questions
I just picked up a 3.7L V6 Mustang last week, it's my first sports car after driving for about 12 years now.
It's also the first manual transmission car I've ever owned, and while I'm still getting completely used to it, I can drive it around without much fuss.
That said, I've got a couple of REALLY basic questions about how to have some fun and when this car prefers to be shifted. I know when to shift for the best fuel economy, but when I get on the highway every day to go to work, I'd like to at least accelerate up to the speed limit quickly and enjoy getting there before easing off and putting it in 6th.
At the same time, while I can drive a stick, I'm still getting used to the new clutch, and I don't want to damage the engine or transmission - so I'm leery of experimenting without asking for some advice first.
Reading this review they talk about the car needing to be revved really high (4k-6k RPMS) in order to get the 305HP advertised out of it, but I really don't want to try that sort of thing without talking to people who've done it and can confirm its not potentially damaging to the car.
So basically I'd like recommended shift points RPM or MPH wise for the car when I want to accelerate quickly. FYI, I've got a Base model, but I have the 3.31 axle ratio installed, just not the whole Performance Package.
Thanks

you got same setup as me......1st gear, i run up to about 3500, hit 2nd, run up to 6000, hit 3rd feel her jump, take up in 3rd to 5000, hit 4th take up to 5,000 again, your starting to fly, hit 5th at 5,000 take back up to 4,000, you can go to 6th, but if you want can run that up to 100 in 5th easy, even 4th, but I would not go into 6th gear under normal driving unless you are going over 60 w/ 3.31's as we have, in 5th you'll run almost 2500 to to 3,000 @ 62 to 65 mph..here see my video with 500 miles on car lol....runs great

heck yeah.............I just did not want to encourage him to get near .....yet lol......and don't let 2500 to 3,000 scare you in 5th at 65, my '07 auto caddy cts run 2500 at 70, my stang 2000 @ 72 in 6th...i found my '10 GT and this car loves to live in the 3000 to 4000, in 3rd and 4th, you'd be surprised, I have actually seen mpg get better in that range than luggin it in 5th..
