Default 408 power?

I have been lurking in this forum for a while and you guys deffinately know what your talking about. I would like to build my 351 into a stroked 408 with around 450 naturally aspirated ponies. What would it take to get this sort of power and what stroker kits do you guys recomend. Thanks

I run a stock block at 637HP N.A. (418 stroker). With a good main girdle and lifter valley support, 700 HP should be reliable if you make sure the block is a good, seasoned one. DSS and CHP recommend a racing block for applications of 700HP up. I'm asking for a split block when I spray my car!

A 408 should be capable of 450Hp pretty easily with good heads and a roller camshaft. Eagle Specialty Products makes good stuff and several folks (like Jeg's) offer 408 forged kits for around $2000. Compression should be around 10.5:1 with a 9.5 inch deck block with a 4" stroke, 6.25 inch rod with a inverted dome (-24cc) piston and depending on the head you use. Trick Flow or AFR 205s with 60cc combustion chambers would be my recommendation with a roller camshaft spec around 290 duration and 550 lift.

You could go a little less radical with 185 heads and a little less cam and probably still make close to 500 HP.

You may want to get a shortblock quote from DSS, CHP or even consider a Ford Racing shortblock. They can put these together for a pretty good price...sometimes less than you can buy parts for.

Count on needing a good radiator with good air flow across it to keep this N.A. combination cool on warm days in traffic.
