Default water pump?

my engine swap is almost done and i am being held up by the water pump the block is a 74 so i got a water pump for a 74 and the pulley stuck out about 3 inches past the crank pulley . my next step was to try one from a 94 mustang ( mine being a 98) not even close. my budget is pretty much spent and i can't afford an electricoes anybody have any ideas?

might just need a pulley swap for the water pump. Is your pulley one of those where the bolts holes are at the top of a bell shape and the belt rib ends up close to the body of the water pump? like this.. If not you need one like this to get it to fit right or get one with a different 'height'

I guess I'm not understanding what you're saying then because that pulley can be installed either way, Over the Water pump head to align the pulley with others that it's currently sticking in front of or sticking out away from the water pump head in cases where the WP head sits too far back....

For the Swap Ford also makes a Harmonic Dampner Spacer that needs to be purchased you didn't say if you had that or not.
