Another AFR head question
For my 351w build I was thinking AFR 185 heads but would I benefit to go with AFR 205 heads? I dont want to go to big on the heads and make more problems for myself. I definitly dont want to have go buy new heads a year down the road when I get bored and decide to do more to the engine. This is going to be a street car with regular3 hour drives every week.
Hi again roblarss,
your cylinder head choice, like everything else is going to depend greatly on what exactly you want to achieve with the car. There are many opinions on what defines a streetable build. The link I pasted below, I found helpful when putting together my project (maybe you've already seen it). There is a formula for a proper build, and the key learning here is properly matched parts, no matter what level of performance you're after. Anyways, check out the link and hopefully it will help you in part selection. The formulas in these tables have been around for a long long time.

What I am planning right now (seems to change as I think and read more) is a 351w with a trick flow street heat intake, AFR heads. Forged pistons/rods. Stock 351 crank, probably a custom cam unless I can find a decent one. I will keep the stock fuel inj system with probably a larger fuel pump and different injectors. Im looking at 9.5 -10:1 compression. I will have the stock AODE rebuilt to handle the horsepower and look at some gears for the rear end(not to sure which yet). Probably throw in a tranny cooler and maybe a new radiator. I am debating on a new torque convertor but still want to make the car decent for city driving (not having to rev it out at every light) but still good for long distance driving.
I have pretty much found a 351w roller to rebuild, just have to order the parts and get them balanced(not sure if its necessary or not but probably a good idea anyways).
Im sure I'm missing some stuff in here somewhere. Have all the money sitting here just need to go spend some of it.
