its actually not as hard as i first thought, i was reminded that the new edge is just a fox platform lightly elongated. so the motor should drop right in, the only prob i c is the tranny, but if u get a beefed up t5 it shouldnt be a problem. now as far as the emissions, there is no law prohibiting the use of an older engine, just you wont pass, b/c its done by year, and not motor, so just try and find a way around it, make friends thats what im doin, to get u through. but other than that u should have an awesome car. what u got planned for the motor?

The T45 used in the mod motor cars will not bolt to a T-5 bellhousing. The emissions controls on a Mustang (regular production car from Ford) have to meet the model year of the VIN chassis. Doesn't matter what year the motor is. Your right that the K-member will bolt up but, you don't use one from a Fox body. Use one from a 94-95 car or use a V6 K-member from a 99-up car and special mounts that Saleen used to offer.

I have just got done researching this topic and have finished my swap a 1999 gt with a 5.0l
1. You can not use a 351 because the only computer legal for emissions, is the full size 1996 bronco with the 351 that is OBDII EPA rules say and state emissions too you can not put a motor or emissions older than the car you have in our case 1999 so i did the next best thing a 5.0 or any 5.0 for that matter from a 1999 explorer which is a GT-40 motor. You need a 1999-2004 V-6 K member or 94-95 gt K member or a tubular which is better for headers and oil pan clearance. The most important part of the swap is the cpu. Here is a list of things you need for the swap the cpu must be a 4 oxygen sensor unit which is XL2F-12A650-PB 1999 EXPLORER you will need the PATS ANTI THEFT CPU that came out of the same explorer along with the wiring harness and the MAF you need a 94-95 5.0 front timing cover because the 1999 gt has a electric fan, and the explorer does not the fan circut is the same wiring for the 94-95 5.0l and the 96-04 4.6l so you can use the 4.6 coolant sensor and fan relay. the explorer wiring harness is basic pull your 4.6 cpu out and engine compartment wiring ,better with the motor out and put you new cpu in where your old one was and run the short 12in lead from the the cpu in the fire wall to the 2x2in connecter to the engine compartment wiring. As for the emission parts and igntion parts you need to use the explorer crank trigger on the side of the block along with the crank pulley with trigger gear on the back you need to use the explorer vapor canister purge valve solenoid PART F67E-9C915 CA or F67Z-9C915CA your TPS is the same and the IAC is the same EGR is the same you can use oil pressure sensor from your 4.6l. The explorer has coil packs the same as the 96-98 mustangs if you want to use a explorer 5.0 motor you will have to remove the cam postion sensor from the dist hole in the intake if you built your own 5.0 then don't worry about this.
You can use any intake upper and lower i used a 93 cobra upper and lower becuase the egr is in the neck of the upper and you have the IAC and TPS in the trottle body you keep your air temp sensor in your cold air pipe where it is, the explorer harness will hook up to it you will have to cut and add wires here and there but if you take your time and do it right it will work because both vehciles are 1999 and ford did not change anything in the same year.
As for the PATS make sure that you get the cpu and pats out of the same explorer and GET PAPER WORK SHOWING YOU PURCHASED THEM AND GET THE VIN NUMBER ford will not program the keys for you with out it.
As for the power steering pump and the hydra boost brake system there is two ways to do this one remove the hydra booster and get a 1999 v-6 brake booster v6 cars did not use hydra boosters
or remove the power steering pump from the motor and the hoses from the hydra boost and hook up your 5.0 pump the same way the 4.6 pump will not bolt up to the 5.0 block. you will need to use a T-5 or tremec tko or T-56 if you have one. I will add some more info later Mike

You can use the 351...aka..99 Saleen S351. It was emissions certified.

You can use the 351 in a 1996 mustang only or the 1999gt if you had all of the saleen parts and emissions.
As for the 1996 you can use the 1996 ford bronco cpu which is the only OBDII cpu with 4 oxygen sensers.
A lot of the 99 saleen E-351 used custom built cpu's form a outfit in cali which were calibarted for that motor.
A update from my last post you also have to use the oxygen sensers for the 1999 explorer they are wired for the explorer harness. I checked with bendix corp that makes the hydra boost and standard booster for the v-6 cars 1999-04 the rep said the stock 5.0 pump will thread in to the valve block below the pump on the K member and will have enough pressure to steer and brake the car with the hydra booster.

The emissions used on the 94-99 S-351's were a combo of 93 Mustang, 94 Mustang, and 5.8 truck parts. As long as you use the correct pieces you will be fine. It doesn't have to have anythign Saleen on it. The cam shaft has to be emissions legal also. Saleen used a custom grind that is larger than a motorsports cam but, is legal. Cosworth engineering did alot of the R&D for the S-351 computers. I still have a few of their prototypes. The Bronco computer was the basis for the swap just with a different program.
