Balky shift from 1st to 2nd
I know this has been discussed before, but is there any solution to for this? My car has 3500 miles on it, and I still struggle with the 1-2 shift. Once I get to about 3000 rpm or so, I push the clutch in and make the shift, and then it's like I'm hunting for second. Get in there!! By the time I'm in second the engine is back at idle and I've lost some speed.
I feel like Richard Gere in Pretty Woman, except I'm driving a Mustang, not a Lotus (Not that I ever watched Pretty Woman. Really. Girlfriend made me do it. You don't believe me.)

I have had trouble too. But if I use my toe to accelerate rather than my whole foot (I'm tall so foot is easier) I can do it with no problem. Its just a matter of touch

First is such a short gear in our steeds that if you don't shift fast you will loose a little kick, I replace my shifter to a quick throw and it helps, but also I gotten used to give it a little tap on the gas while shifting (just to rev up a little while te clutch is depressed) it has become second nature and works for me.
Just an idea.

Ok, you have 3,500k on your car so it’s fairly new… and tight. First of all talk to your ford dealer and he’ll tell you it’s new and tight. I have about 17,000k on mine and like yours, it was tight shifting when mine was new. Our cars can take it, shift that thing. It will become more user friendly and actually learn as far as shifting over time like mine is now. There built for it and more. My shifts are much smother now over time. Reverse is still about the same as you don’t use that as much, although it is getting better now. And yes, first gear is a short duration, a little to short in my opinion but that is where you get all that torque. Your car is under warranty, if there is a real problem at first notice, talk to your dealer. Good advise to all on this forum.

Dude, the factory shifter SUCKS!!! no matter how you shift, it stills feels like a wet noodle!!
Now there are options, If you are a serious racer, look up STEEDA, ROUSH, or other manufacturer with stop bolts on their shifters. The stop bolts are not necesary in my opinion but HEAVY DUTY gearheads swear by them.
If you want a shorter shift throw and tighter gate, and like some hard shifting once in a while for sh..s and giggles, then think about the HURST shifter, it is very popular around here and I love the retro look and performance of this bad boy. By the way, the price and installation factor are also acceptable. Did mine in an hour and one of the best mods so far. Heres link so you can check it out. Now this is for a GT but ours is pretty much the same.
