I actually came on line and joined this forum to find out if anyone else is having problems with their 5-speeds. And sure enough ppl are saying the same thing that I am hearing. I was wondering if I was crazy or what. I am used to the 5-speed v6 and had a 02 v6 manual mustang. I am used to the louder noise that comes with manual tranny. But I am a bit concerned with what ppl are saying. Mine sounds more like a knocking noise, but not an engine knock. It is definately in the tranny. When the car is not in gear there is a whirling like sound andas soon as I put it in gear with the clutch in the sound goes away. As soon as I accelerate the knocking sound begins and the clutch has a slight shutter feel. The longer I drive the car the louder the sound seems to get. It isn't noticable when I first get in the car. It starts appearing after 5 miles of driving or so. I will take it to the dealer because I want it at least to go on record that something doesn't seem right.

hey its a mustang, it will always make noise, and it will always be a lil rough to shift. u think the mucsle cars back in the day were quiet and easy to shift?? i know in the chevelle, i had to pretty much have to stand on the damn clutch to make it work and pull hard to shift gears. but i got use to it and to me there is nothing like having something to give u a bit of a challenge when u drive. all adds up in the fun factor

redmustang07, ...You are not Crazy, Very common issue. The only fix is that actually works is to change out your tranny fluid for Royal Purple Synchromax. quieted it right down took out the "chewing on steel " sounds and wayyyy smoother shifts. Takes 1/2 hour and 30 bux....

Yup, same here. I have an 07 with manual. I'd never go auto with a Stang. The shifting was very stiff at first but is breaking in nicely. Still, I am very disturbed by the trans noisethat I suspectis mostly fromthe throwout bearing. A common symptom is that the noisegoes away whendepressing the clutch. I've never had a trans this noisey before so I am taking it back. My dealer is very good so I am hoping they have some answer. I'm betting that there is a Technical Service Bulletin about it too since it seems to be a very common complaint. Will keep you guys posted. Until then, glad I have the Shaker sound system!!!!

My 2006 is kinda clunky ... it's all part of the retro feel ... supposed to feel and shift like a TopLoader 4-speed!

That is a VERY nice, clean set-up. Did you do the install yourself?

Yes, I did all the install, painting, andwiring myself. I am using the stock base model head unit. I heard too many bad things about the shaker systems, so I went with a totally stock look in the interior, and added a nice set-up in the trunk. Sounds great for a stock head unit. Used high level line adapters to run RCAs to the amp.
