Another exhaust question
Hey all,
Any advantages, disadvantages, or problems with running a true dual exhaust? No X or H pipe. Cut the Y pipe and run new pipes straight back. I have the GT take offs and was wondering about if this would work.
Thanks,
Everett

RE: Another exhaust question
i dont believe running true duals is a bad thing. its been around alot longer than either x or h pipes have been. i dont wanna say all but dont most old school muscle cars run straight duals?

RE: Another exhaust question
Hey all,
I went ahead and got a Ford racing x pipe. I am going the "all Ford" route. (hangars, midpipe, x pipe) Has anyone heard of needing a heat shield above the drivers side muffler to keep from frying any wiring?
Most ofthe "old school" muscle carsdid havethe true duals and never had problems. With the new era of all these sensors and computer stuff, I wondered if they would still work. Sound is not a big deal for me really. I just wanted to get a dual set up peeking out of the back. This is the first car I've had that didn't have them. It's just not right.

So I had my pipes installed and took it on a 90 min blast through 2 states.
Jumped out, lifted up the back carpet and the metal was BARELY warm.
I don't think our V6 puts out enough heat to fry eggs.
I peek under there every now and again just to be sure.
To melt that PVC stuff, your trunk needs to go well above 250 degrees... If your chassis is hitting over 250, you'd probably notice the flames from your gas tank first!

perhaps in a V8... but in our V6 i think a true dual setup has a less than optimal sound...

I also heard that onthe 5.0 Mustang magazine website.
Never got confirmation of that reasoning.
I'm not worried. I like the sound.
