Rear end whine on stock v6s

RE: Rear end whine on stock v6s
Mine has developed a high pitched whine when holding a steady speed. Over a couple months, it got louder. If you cruise above 70mph, the high pitched whine is not as noticeable as the pitch becomes so high that the ear has more difficult time picking it up. I have 65,000+ mile on my 2 year old Pony. I took it to local dealer near where I work last night and was told is coming from the diferential{rear end]. I was hoping might be exhaust system but was prepared for theworst. Kit to replace rear end is $735.00 + $530.00 labor folks!!! Newer Stangs have100,000 mile drive train warranty. Parts are on order waiting for a call from dealer to bring the car back as of yesterday. I will be writing toFord giving my VIN#..dealer where work performed.....etc.....etc......along with COMMENTS! Good luck to you all with stock rear ends with Pony Package.

Mine 07 V6 manual has a slight whine/drone
in 5th gear in a neutral type of load at speed.
Just coasting, no power or downshifting.
No noise while accelerating in any gear or
while downshifting in any gear, justa little
5th gearnoise during no load coasting.

Mine whines, too. When going through the parking lot in first gear and the exhaust isnot too loud, I'm sure passersby can hear it clearly. Makes me want to rev to hide the transmission sound. My 2006 6-speed MX5 has the same noisy transmission. It is nothing new to me and I chalk it up as normal.

Parts came in today at dealer to fix differential. I will be taking my case up with Ford Regional FactoryRep next week and see what happens. Can only try to seek reimbursement from Ford. I will make sure that the dealer saves all the old parts for me too, for whatever it is worth.

As previously posted with constant high pitch whine in rear differential w 65,000 miles whilemaintainingcruising speed, dealer replaced rack and pinion to the tune of $1275.00. My 06 has 36,000 factory drive train warranty. I wrote a letter to Ford Cusutomer Relations Dept and attached my paid bill, for whatever it is worth. I still like my automatic and to and from work, summer weather, happy I average 29-30 mpg with NON ETHENOL gasoline. Rear differential is nice and quite at any cruising speed. I can hear my radio! 07 and 08's have 60,000 factory warranty. $1100.00 direct deposit Federal check from a week ago is KAPOOT! Thought I would follow-up in case someone with auto trasmission starts hearing high pitch constant whine at any cruising speed whether in town or highway. Factory did not assemble correctly with right shims. Mine must have been built on a Monday or Friday.
