Default Throttle body question

I am thinking about getting a BBK 70mm throttle body for my 05 4.0L mustang and Im wondering if anybody has installed one and if it was worth it? And is it worth it to put a throttle body spacer with this throttle body?

I think the reply poster meant that the spacer was just a paperweight, not the actual TB itself. Since the BBKTB is about16% larger than stock it should give some noticable improvement. $300 for 6 HP didn't sound like such a great deal
though, but I bought anyway, I'll let you know how it goes after it's on...

I would go with the Zabteck TB for the 4.0.

I think the only people that have seen any kind of gain from an aftermarket TB is the F/I guys... so... for an N/A car I think it's going to be a paper weight... (along with the TB spacer! LOL)

No F/I means waste of money. No performance gains at all. Spend your money on other things first. CAI/tuner/suspension mods, etc etc etc

Ah, it begins :-) Zabtek vs. BBK vs. OEM TB

Zabtek likes to say that the BBK installations are problematic with stuck throttle plates, and special skills and tools
needed to transfer the electronics, and they render your old TB useless.

BBK likes to say that Ported OEM TBs have inherant idling problems, and give no proven dyno performance.

Both like to say that new cars are inherantly more complex than in the "old days" of carburation and other companies
TB's can cause unexpected difficulties and may be difficult to install..

They both like to say whatever they can to take away your hard earned $$$

Thanks to this forum most have discovered...

1) Any one who has beenthrough a"old days" carbrebuild/retune can handle any TB swap.
2) Zabtek requires a cooling system re-route on some 4.0's
3) A sticking plate (due to vacuum lock)is easily fixed.
4) Idle and acceleration probs are usually caused because of the computer reseting, not the TB itself.
5) Unless you have already done a CAI/ MAF/ and Exhaust Upgrades withreflash don't even waste your money on a TB
because otherwise it won't yield HP on 4.0.
(More air is not really a factor on the 4.0 and most air changes without a tune are just a waste of $$)
6)There are dyno results floating around which show some TB changes have +HP effect (although minor 4-6hp).
7)Larger Bore TB's seem to be in favor with the forced inductionand/or larger injectorand/or bigger cam crowd.
so if your headed that direction a TB would be a start....
