Actually, by loosening the axelback AND midpipe clamps, you can usually adjust the tip enough to center it properly in the cutout without cutting or bending anything.
I originally did the same thing on my 05, it sounded pretty good and happened to line up fine on mine. Had it a couple years until I got rear ended and the guy took out the whole system up past the cats (he went under my car he was braking so hard). Now I have a spare driver side GT muffler and nothing to use it on. If anyone around the St Louis area has a need for it I'd give it away free. Stock 6 cylinder one too as far as that goes.

A good tune is one of your biggest power gainers short of going FI, period. The muffler/axleback only improves exhaust note and a tune has nothing to do with the exhaust beyond the cats.

The GT muffler is less restrictive so it will compliment a good tune and more air flow in. But you need the good tune to make it all work. The VMP Power package is what I started out with and it works. The combo of tune, larger MAF/CAI and GT muffler can gain you 25 HP & 20 torque at the wheels with the 93 octane tune. Along with the added power your exhaust note will be more muscular as well. Scroll down at the link to see the dyno sheet and other details.
