it will work, it will fit, but you will have to remove the shock towers. People usually use Mustang II/Pinto front suspension and it is weak with tiny brakes. DO NOT USE suspension and brakes designed for a car with an I4 when you are using an engine as heavy as a 428

I'm in the process of putting a 4.6 in my '65 ... you should check out RRS http://www.rrs-online.com/shocktowerproducts.php
They make a sweet notching kit that gives you 5.5" extra on each side. The only catch is that you have to use their coil-over strut front suspension, but it's pretty sweet even if you don't need it for the clearance.
I've also noticed some trash-talking about the T45 (primarily from nathan smith) and I'm wondering what the beef is ... since I just bought a motor and tranny (T45) out of a '98 GT ... was this a mistake? My understanding was that the T45 was very similar internally to the T56, which would make it pretty solid. Any advice would be appriciated!

Your T-45 will do for stock power, but if you put a blower on the engine, you'll be looking at a busted up transmission if you can get the car to hook up. Then again, the TR3650, T-56 and TKO transmissions are more expensive.

Well, thanks for the info fellas (thanks also Nathan for the PM) ... looks like the T-45 sitting in my garage might be a boat anchor, but we'll see ...
As for the shock tower clearancing, Twister is kind of right, but you don't need to completely remove the shock towers with the RRS kit. It uses the stock upper spring mounting location and the stock lower control arms and strut rods but does away with the upper control arm. Much less labor intensive than putting in the Mustang II suspension, and you can get it with 13.6" rotors and Brembo 4-piston calipers! Can't wait to put it in mine!

i am in the process of rebuilding my T45 out of my 97 GT. I honestly thing for a DD and stock setups it's a great transmission. After all, if you are going all out drag, a racing transmission would be more appropriate than a STOCK trans.
It's a fine transmission to start with. I'd say use it to save some money now, and just run amsoil or another quality synthetic and don't powershift the crap out of it. Mine has 110000 on it and it is solid just needs synchros. Then upgrade down the line.
