Default one more 4.10 gear question

so my buddy at work and i both have gt's 04,03. were always talking about what to do next, what will give 'em the best performance, sound, etc. 4.10's always comes up. i know they add about 500 rpms but what if you set the idle down to compensate t save gas?, or will that defete the purpose?

thanks

your idle speed will not change because of the gearing.
