Silver4.6 is right. It sucks to hear it and some people are offended by it. I could preach about this for ages but I won't bother.
Point being: if you don't have a need to buy new, there are far better cars to purchase than a GT. Again, it comes down to preference.

F-bodies are hands down, the best bang for your buck car to ever come onto the market. 1998 & later F-bodies are simply the best cars on the road when it comes down to your dollar value.
Even when F-bodies were in production, they we going for the SAME price as new GT's, yet for some reason everyone thinks they were 'so expensive' and a GT was all they could afford. Now that F-bodies are gone, your new bang for your buck vehicles are your Evo's & STi's.
Mach 1's are truly the only bang for your buck, cheap V8 performance car on the market at the moment, which again, not many were produced, aren't exactly easy to find in most area's. Yes, the 03-04 Cobra have 400HP, but they are rare, hard to find & prices are right up with C5's.
Don't get me wrong, I like my GT. I enjoy my GT, if I didn't like it I wouldn't of bought it. Since performance means something to me, I know getting this GT over an F-body was a stupid move on my part, but at the moment the looks of my 02 GT was more appealing than the LS1's I saw locally. But, comparing my GT or even a Mach 1 to the overall performance of an F-body makes a Mustang look like a Pinto.

I like high performance but it's not my top priority. You won't see me launching from a stop light. I don't forsee myself spending a few thousand bucks on upgrades either. Maybe something to make the roar deeper. But nothing major.
I like the Mustang because it is a legendary American muscle car. I like it because it feels great to drive. Not for street or track racing. I like my low insurance payments and want to keep it that way.
I saw a white GT on my way to work today. It was sweet looking!
