Default big problem, catalytic converter?

Hello-

Hard to describe problem - starts and runs ok (not perfect) for just a few minutes, then when you step on gas rpms drop, engine either goes rough/loses speed or stalls. Will restart, pops when revved, smells kind of like wet paint! This is a '99 GT, 4.6, all stock.

I was thinking the converter or a sensor? Anyone had experience with a problem like this?

Thanks for any help,
Drew

Sounds like an O2 sensor is bad.

if it was a cat that collapsed, then the car would run, but it would have practically zero accelleration. When my cat collapsed on my old stock midpipe, i was in 1st gear at WOT and only getting 13 mph....
so it sounds like sensor issues, can you run it long enough to get to an autozone to get codes read?

Have you changed your fuel filter recently? You might want to try that... If it's a sensor you should have a check engine light...

I had a similiar problem when I serviced the CAI on my old v6. I hadnt seated the MAF sensor wire fully and it was causing it to die out under power. Check that too, it might have gotten loose somehow
