Default Question about 4 cats on stock h-pipe

I know the forward two are precats and the rear two are the main cats, but what is the difference in function. I'm thinking about cutting a set out and don't have to worry about emissions, but don't want a check engine light.
Thanks

As inexpensive as H-pipes are you would be better off not hacking/welding your cats...

Would there be any problems with gutting the pre cat? Besides emissions

not worth it imo... I don't think you'll ever get everything out.
