The difference is fairly good. At 90, the difference in the tach will only be about 300-500 RPM's. Sorry I dont have the exact numbers any more. The biggest thing with the 4:10's is you need a good suspension set up. If you were todump the clutch without at least some subframe connectors, you will be changing your tires sooner than youwill want to.Lower controll armsand subframes are the safestway to go to start with. You dont have to get suspension upgrade if you practice launching, but dont expect to dump it off the line. Everyonethat I have talked to loved their 4:10's and abouthalf of the 3:73 guys wished they got the 4:10's.Also, your HWY top speed does go down with 4:10's but how often do you go 150 MPH. Just my .02

awesome, so if i go 4:10's i should do somesuspension work, but as far as driving my car on the highway to class (say at around 80ish) i'll be all right? that's music to my ears, because i've been putting some really serious thought into 3:73's, but if 4:10's will treat me well, i might go for that instead.

can anyone gimme an idea as to what my 96 GT would run with headers, an exhaust (it's not a name brand, the last guy that owned the car cut the pipes off at the precats and welded up two 2 1/2" pipes back to the stock mufflers), and 4:10's?

Gears dont give you horsepower, they give you torque. Yourstock engine has about 210 hp. Do you know what kind of headers they are? Long tubes, shorties, equal length...LT's will give you about 10-20 with 20 being a high number. Shorties dont give you nearly as much, about 5-10. The new 2 1/2 pipes help a little MAYBE another 3-6. Conservatively I would say, with long tubes, about 230hp. If you want your engine to wake up, do the PI head swap. Heads are a little on the pricey side but the best bang for the buck for pre-99 4.6L mustangs. Hope this helped.

I don't want to tell you what to do, but I would suggest 3.73 gears beings you're going to be on the highway a lot. 4.10 isn't going to kill your car, but IMO I would feel better about driving my car on the highway with the 3.73. I had 3.73 in my 2001 GT, and at 70 mph I was running about 3000 rpm. With 4.10, I would be somewhere around 3500-3800. To me, that's too much. If you're planning on doing other mods, I wouldn't worry about the 4.10. You can do a few other mods to make up for what you didn't get with the 4.10. 4.10 would be great for city driving, but doing a lot of highway driving is going to be tough on your stang in the future, and you don't want to startkilling your car at such a young age. Trust me, you WILL be happy with 3.73 gears. And besides, with 4.10, you will be shifting to third gear just to make a turn!!! lol just my $.02
