ive been told that when your car is new that breaking the car in hard will produce more power than if the car is babyed. what do u guys think? also how long should i wait before i change my oil to synthetic? this will be my first oil change on the car.

Break her in easy. At first the motor has to fine tune everything. Even though some people say breaking it in is old technology. I still would to be careful.

I would recommend changing to synthetic on your first oil change.

The idea behind that is that you really only have a couple hundred miles to seat the piston rings. The bores are honed (they have a rough finish) initially, for the purpose of wearing the pistion rings into a wear pattern with the cylinder walls. After a few hundred miles the honing is pretty much been totally smoothed out and thats your only shot at a good seating.

The piston rings are forced against the cylinder walls the hardest when you let off the gas and start slowing down. You don't need (or want) high rpm's until after break in, no matter which way you go. So, really, in my opinion, the best way to break in a car is running it kinda hard up to about 4k rpms, let off and slow down to 2k (let the engine slow you down), and go back to 4k. Doing this in a higher gear is best as well.

This practice has long been used for motorcylces, especially sportbikes for racing duties. Its done for a reason - maximum ring sealing. If you don't get it done in the early stages of break-in then you've lost your chance.

That's my $.02, you want the change?

***edit*** oh, and about the synthetic oil - wait until your first 500 mile change to run it. The first 500 miles you don't want that extra protection - your trying to wear your parts in.
