Well could be a couple of things, one the new shifter is aluminum and has excellent heat transfer properties, so the heat will heat up the whole rod uniformly unlike steel where the heat concetrates and then disperses. The sucking noise is cold be that there is not a good seal between the tranny and the new stick. Might want to pull it off get all the old gasket off and reapply the RTV.

I am not sure (haven't installed on yet) if there is a secondary boot under the main boot, if you take that off you will get a lot more road noise too.

negative on the secondary boot. alot of people have complained about the noise the tri-ax makes. its a whinning sound...

like silver said, make sure that seal is GOOD. i forgot to put the RTV on it and was losing tanny fluid everytime i launched at the track...

Yeah, theres no insulation like on the stock boot. Tons more noise which im kewl with. Makes for more muscle feel. The stick gets hot, I noticed it when I first installed. Hehe, I still need to go and get some RTV for it :P I was so anxious to try it out and couldnt find any at the all ford nationals. Ill do that today I guess
