MD, great info, love to hear how it goes, also love to hear the sound of a cammed 4.6! However I do object to the reference of red-headed crack baby stepchild in the ghetto. In the future please use amber haired, substance abuse challenged, urban alternative family, thanks.
lol

I live on the border of GA and FL. Ive got a friend in DeLand and grandparents in Sebring. You make it up here to GA and we'll hook your car up with a set. I won't do valve springs though - not unless you pay $$ lolz, themz a biatch. But we can do a set of cams in a couple beers.

MD,

If the cam swap is as easy as you make it sound, then I'm in.[sm=smiley20.gif] I have done cam changes in the past, but they were on old muscle cars.

My biggest concern is that I do not think there is anyone around my area that can do a tune. Where could I find out that information? I live in upstate S.C.

If I could not find somebody, I assume that I could order a chip?.

Thanks,
Todd

Im thinking of doing a cam-swap here in the near future. I liked the SHW cams. None of them required a spring change, just modded exhaust and higher stalls if you have an auto. If the change is as easy as you make it sound im gonna be on it real soon. I thought cam swaps on our rides would be difficult because you have to remove pretty much the whole front end. Dont you have to remove the pullies, radiator, brackets, timing cover(which is the whole front end of the motor on the modulars), all piping, valve covers....and I guess thats it?

No, its doubtful - I think comp cams makes some that may pass - thier not much better than PI cams though

Im sure you can find a mail-order chip to work if you go with a popular cam, or do a search for a dyno shop in the area. Im driving 4 hours for a tune. With a stage 1 the car should still idle and will still drive fine etc, its just a good idea to get a tune afterwards to get the maximum benefits.

Yep wife's support is always smart Im going to T&J in Atlanta, gonna cost $500.00. Their are closer places but I prefer to go there. They reflash the ECU, so you can save 2-300 on a chip. It comes out to about the same price as going elsewhere and buying a chip - but these guys are the best in the country.

It depends on what 4.6 you have as far as what has to be done. If you cams have gears that are pressed on, then you have to remove the front cover etc. to change them. If your cam gears bolt on (I know for certain that 2002+ Mustangs have bolt-on gears, but Im pretty sure that most 2000 & 2001's had press on gears. Some were Romeo engines and others were Windsor engines.

If you have a bolt-on cam gear then, with the anderson cam too, you won't have to do anything more than remove the valve covers and work there.
