steering wheel slop

it seems that my steering wheel is a little sloppy.. i was jsut wondering what i could do to make it tighter.

ummm have a look at your tie rod ends, they may be a bit loose. Other than that, it could be in the steering shaft or the rack/pinion itself

how would i even go about getting to that... is that something i can do with out too much advanced car knowledge?

You can also check the swivel joint on the steering column shaft, just look between the inner fender well and the motor at the shaft and you'll see it. I've had to replace more then a few of those in the past as they get worn and sloppy. Plus check what monkey stated, thats also a slop area. Lift the car, lock the wheel and then try to move the wheels from outside all the time watching the front end parts for play, hope this helps, good luck.
