Default catalytic converters

I have on 02 gt with flowmaster exaust and a stock h pipe, i was wondering if i can take my catalytic converters off, or if i have to get an aftermarket h or x pipe, and if i do take off the catalytic converters will the exaust be noticably louder?

You can gut the cats or get them cut out and have straight pipe welded in. Yes it will be louder. You will have a CEL on though.

Umm depends on the welder. You could do it yourself with a sawzall and some piping. All you would need other than that is some adapters and clamps. Welding would be a better idea though. Probably $50 through a welder.

Would a shop even do it since it isn't legal to remove them?

I myself am trying to figure out what to do with mine, if anything. I figure even if I cut 'em out myself I'll never get past the guy with the mirror down at emissions next year...and not sure if just changing the mid-pipe is worth it for sound/power.
