Me and a buddy painted his 93 gt last year and it turned out great. We stripped it inside and out (we changed the color from red to blue), did all the body work, primed it, wet sanded the primer, Sprayed the color(5 coats), sprayed the silver stripes, cleared it and wet sanded it and polished it all in about 3 weeks in his garage. We knew what we were doing and had all the equipment to do it. It is a big project and you can mess it up but it is just paint which can be fixed.
My friend ahs painted a few cars and agrees to paint mine. But I really know nothing about it so I was wondering why you would wet sand after you got the clear coat on?
Wet sanding will "level" out the paint and take out some (but not all) flaws. I reccomend that if a person is interested in painting to look for a community college or tech school and take a class from them. Keep in mind that the tools you will need to it right are exspensive. Air compressor (with enoguh guts to keep up with the gun), the gun itself, hammers, dollies, and then there is the paint. It's not uncommon to have $500-1000 in just materials if you are doing a "decent job".
Here is a link to a cool "how to".

You wet sand the primer with a thin piece of wood wraped with sandpaper. You have to dust the gray primer with black and sand till there is no more black. It is a very long process but it will insure there are no waves. This step is the difference between a $5000 paint job and a $8000 one.

Wet sanding the clear gets out and runs and orange peel. It really brings out the shine.

To add to that. You cannot wet sand just any primer. Filler primer should not be wet sanded, as it will soak up water and cause trouble later on in the job.
