If your friend wants to swap in an engine from a M1 Abrams tank and has the money, patience, and means to do it I say go for it.

Yes there is a lot of money involved in swapping engines. However, there is a lot of misinformation being given out on this site from people with no experience in this area. A K member swap is not necessary. The 4.6 and the 3.8 use the same k member. You do not need to change out the steering column. The springs and struts/shocks do need to be changed. There is quite a bit of wiring that needs to be changed but from what I read it sounds like he's got a donor car anyway. In this case he's pretty much got everything he needs unless it was damaged too bad from the crash.

What he said^^^. Granted I only swapped in a 2v, but my 7.5 rear end is holding up just fine also. The only reason I didnt do it with a 4v was that I got the 2v for just over 1,000$, and the cheapest 4v was at least 2 1/2 times the price. It will NOT be magically more difficult to swap a 4v in there as opposed to a 2v. If your friend has a donor car, go for it. You'll learn a lot.

I personally don't like the 7.5".. I've had some experience w/ it, and it didn't hold for sh-t...

Maybe that's just my personal experience...
