yeaqh i got the steeda tri ax shifter and i didnt research enough and i didnt put in the gaskets or the silicone. Noise is annoying as hell. I was unaware of the leaks though.

Sounds like silicone is the way to go. What is a good brand and where can i get some.
Well, the Tri-Ax is pretty noisy anyway, and it's not like it's going to leak all over the place. Actually, I'd be more worried about contamination in the tranny than leaking. Assuming you tightened it down, you could flip the car upside down and it would probably only dribble a little so it's not like it's going to pour out or anything, it's just leaving something unsealed that should be sealed up for multiple reasons. So no real hurry, just whenever you go to do the tranny work. I actually need to pull my shifter off again... maybe this weekend, when I change the fluid because that's a lot easier than using the fill hole, plus I need to do a few things in there anyway. It'll make your arm tired with how long you have to unscrew some of those bolts, but it's all easy work.

As for silicone to use, I don't know. My MGW came with some silicone but I didn't use it, I prefer a gasket.

When I bought mine, they did not even give me a gasket. I installed without it almost 1 year ago, and it's fine. No leaks.[sm=gears.gif]

yeah gasket seems a little easier. plus its only 10 bucks. Will the gasket help with the noise at all. I dont mind things loud but its a very annoying noise. Funny thing is if I put on different shift ***** the noise will be quiter or louder depending on the ****.

Its going to make a mess. I posted a pic of my tri ax a few weeks ago after I discovered the liquid gasket I used was junk. There was tranny fluid all over the shifter and the top of the tranny, then some sand and dirt decided to mix in with it for a nice sloppy mess.[:@] So, i resealed it with silicone RTV and so far so good.

so what was the silicone that you used and where is a good place to get it. Like NAPA, O'Rileys or even walmart (lol) sounds like silicone is the safest way to go. Rather be safe than sorry.

You had to ask....I can't remember the brand off the top of my head. If you go to napa they should have it. It says Silicone RTV on the tube. Usually the guys there are decent and can help you with small things like this (though one guy told me to run 20w50 oil in my stang for the summer, lol). Make sure you read the instructions and applications on what ever you buy though.

yeah i just looked up a nice how-to and read how to do it. Seems simple. What would you think about putting a small amount of the sealer in the holes for the bolts. Bad idea???
