4.10 gears equivalent hp gain

RE: 4.10 gears equivalent hp gain
There wasn't any stupid comments made, just facts.
And when it comes to 4.10's in a near stock GT it is a band-aid fix for quickness.
The SOHC 4.6 has low peaks for HP and TQ meaning it hits a high number than drops. There Dyno graphs look like mountains.
Gears just make it hit the peak faster.
The original poster wanted to know what HP it would take to beat a similar car with 4.10's.
With the SOHC's power band it would take much more than 15HP to make things equal. More like 30-40HP.

Only if by slower you mean that your 4th gear wont be able to go past 115-120ish. As far as acceleration goes though...it will pull harder in every gear than it did before.
If you've removed the limiter, your car is not limited by 4.10's in the 150+ mph zone. It's limited by power. We just don't have the horsepower to reach the mechanical top speed of the gear. The point I'm trying to make is that you will not be slowing down ANYTHING by going to 4.10s.

youre on thin enough ice as it is...so i suggest that you watch what you say, and stick to what you know best...pointless discussions about how great your crappy cars are, over in the race section.
sixeight, i am guessing that slowdy meant that you would lose top speed with a bigger gear...

alrighty taking a basic quater mile/hp calc and the rule of thumb: 4.10s lower et by .3-.4 seconds...here you go
a 3500 lb mustang with 400 hp and 3.27s runs the quarter in 12 seconds
a 3500 lb mustang would run approx 11.6-11.7 with 4.10s making hp gain 30-40 flywhel hp
tuh-duh...(in my opinion) its not too accurate, but i think thats more of what your looking for, try comparing times before and aft using some calculator
