Reset computer?
I just bought a MAC CAI for my 2002 GT which I have owned for about 2 months now. There have been no mods to the engine that I can see, however the previous owner did replace the stock exhaust system. My question is will the computer freak out with, what I hope to be, increased air flow after installing the MAC or will I be OK. It should adjust itself for the difference in air flow, shouldn't it? I have read, both on this forum, and other places that disconnecting the battery for 20+ minutes will reset the computer but I am wary about doing that unless I really need to.
As code said, there isn't enough difference in just changing the intake to need to reset the computer, however it's really not a big deal. You probably wont even notice you reset it (other than the clock being wrong haha). If you really get on your car, you might notice it being a little off, but I can never tell when I reset my computer, I did it twice today too.
umm when you are doing any kind of work under the hood you need to unhook the battery. Which in turn resets the ecu aka "computer" After the ecu is reseted it will change the air/fuel accordingly. It would do this without a reset but would do it more efficiently with one.
Thanks. I typically do unhook the batter depending on what I am doing. It has to be unhooked for 20 minutes supposedly to reset the ecu. For something like this, it "should" be a simple swap that will only take 5-10 minutes. I was concerned that resetting the ecu would cause some other issues and trigger and error code.
No it won't ruin a tune if you have a custom tune. Its just like unplugging your computer at your house. When putting mods on your car it is essentially the same thing of putting a faster DVD/CD-rom on your computer. The information is still there.
