just get a XCAL2 Tuner and get a tune for your auto...will help the shift points alot...well at least for my old Ford Probe GT it did...I did a mod to that car that when the car was shiftin between gears it would keep sprayin fuel and that would give it that extra boost in between shifts...

+1. Thats what I have done with my car instead of installing a shift kit or do the j-mod.

Manual shifting won't hurt the tranny. Neutral drops will, but not shifting.
manual shifting will hurt the transmission, it's a fact
YES in the AODE tranny... but NOT in the newer 4r70w tranny like in my 04 stang.... would I recommend manual shifting? Not really!

I'd think the shift points for a automatic tranny "everything stock" were set by the factory to give you stuff like best possible fuel economy and reduced driveline stress, NOT necessarily to give you the fastest ET
The car knows the difference between giving it a little gas, and when you're trying to go fast. An auto trans takes its cues from the throttle position. If you go wide open, a properly functioning automatic trans will downshift and will hold the shift until the end of the powerband. Where as if you were at half throttle the car the car shifts at 3K or whatever to promote fuel economy.
